The first step in your skincare routine: cleansing
A cleanser is where every skincare routine begins. Only when your skin is thoroughly cleansed can the next steps—toner, essence, and cream—absorb properly. On makeup days, start with a cleansing oil or water to remove surface makeup, then follow with this cleanser as your second cleanse to clear out any remaining impurities deep in the pores.
Use morning and night
In the morning, gently wash away overnight sebum and dead skin cells. In the evening, remove the buildup of the day. The mildly acidic formula is gentle enough for daily use without compromising your skin barrier. That said, because it contains salicylic acid, you may prefer to use it primarily at night depending on how your skin feels.
Massage gently with a rich lather
Wet your hands, dispense an appropriate amount, and work it into a rich, cushiony foam. The fine bubbles minimize friction, allowing you to cleanse without irritation. Massage in circular motions across your entire face for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Pay extra attention to the sides of your nose and jawline, go lightly around the eye area, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
Pairing with your next step, by skin concern
- Breakout-prone skin: Follow with a calming toner containing tea tree, and apply a targeted spot treatment where needed
- Oily skin: Use a lightweight water-type toner, then layer a hydrating serum to balance oil and moisture
- Dull complexion: Add a niacinamide or vitamin C serum in the next step to help support tone-evening
Precautions when using salicylic acid products
Salicylic acid (BHA) works by dissolving sebum and dead skin cells inside the pores. If you notice dryness with daily use, adjust the frequency based on how your skin responds. Using it on the same day as retinol or other exfoliating products may cause irritation, so it's best to separate them by time of day. If redness or stinging persists, discontinue use and consult a dermatologist.
