Prep is everything when bleaching at home
Unlike regular dye, bleach works by lifting melanin from the hair shaft — so preparation matters. Avoid washing your hair for 48 hours before bleaching. Your scalp's natural oils act as a protective barrier against irritation. Before you start, mix the included Dr. Bond No.1 Ampoule into your bleach formula to help minimize damage during the lifting process.
Evening application works best
Your scalp may feel sensitive after bleaching, so we recommend doing this in the evening when you have no plans to go out. UV exposure right after bleaching can worsen hair damage, so if you do head out the next day, wear a hat or apply a protective hair essence.
Mix Agent 1 and Agent 2, shake well, then apply
Squeeze the Agent 1 cream bleach into the Agent 2 bottle, close the pointed cap, and shake vigorously up and down 20 to 30 times. Add the Dr. Bond No.1 Ampoule, shake again, and use immediately. Start application at the back of your head and let it process naturally for 5 to 30 minutes depending on how much lift you want. No heat needed — skip the dryer or cap.
How to use based on your hair condition
- First-time bleaching on virgin hair: Leave on for 20 to 30 minutes for full black pigment removal
- Just want a subtle lift: Rinse after 5 to 10 minutes
- Previously bleached hair: Avoid already-lightened sections and focus on new growth only
Post-bleach care and precautions
Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water until it runs clear, then finish with the included Dr. Bond Yellow Out Toning Shampoo to neutralize brassy tones. For the week following bleach, avoid high-heat styling and give your hair intensive treatment care. Do not use if you have cuts or irritation on your scalp. If you feel stinging or any unusual reaction during use, rinse immediately.
