When we need a product that isn't sold in the country where we live, we often turn to international shopping sites. ✈️
In the previous article, we covered 🔗how to check whether the K-Beauty product you want to buy is authentic.
Today we're going to compare whether the K-beauty site you've chosen will actually serve you well and how you can buy K-beauty products safely.
The truth is that you can't prove 100% that a product is genuine just by looking at a website's interface.
However, there are clues you can check before buying, and if you apply those same clues to any site, you'll notice the difference. All you have to do is remember that formula and apply it when you shop! ✨
Shall we check that formula together right now?

→ Product compared: 🔗VT Reedle Shot 300 (50ml)
This K-skincare product has been loved by Koreans for a long time, and it's actually one of my personal favourites as an editor. I chose it as today's comparison product because I know it well and, since it's so famous, I thought we could get plenty of data on Shop Y, Marketplace A and Piyonna (the global K-beauty platform launched by KakaoStyle). 🔍
- Note: I checked the sites one after another for about 30 minutes in the early hours of 4 October 2026 (Korea time). Since all three sites run sales or have fluctuating prices, this may change over time, and all prices are based on a single unit of the product!
This article was written as part of the Piyonna Supporters programme activities.
Step 1. What should we check first to know whether the product we want to buy is genuine?
First of all, check the seller section in the buy box!
-
Marketplace A: even though it was exactly the same page, the seller changed depending on whether I set the delivery address to Korea or to Madrid. With a Madrid delivery address, the product appeared as sold and shipped by a third-party parapharmacy seller, and around 10 other sellers appeared.
On Shop Y I couldn't find a clear seller indication, and Piyonna didn't have a separate seller section either; instead, it stated that the item ships from a warehouse in Korea.

→ 📌 Watch out: the seller and the brand are not the same; they are separate entities.
Even if a page has a link to the brand store and a brand badge, that doesn't mean the seller is the brand's official distributor. That's why it's very important to click on the seller's name and review the seller's detailed information.
On the Marketplace A page, a link to the VT COSMETICS brand store appeared together with a brand badge, but the seller in the actual buy box was independent of that brand store. In other words, even if a brand badge appears on the page, it doesn't mean that “this seller is the official distributor”.
By contrast, Shop Y listed the official distributors of more than 400 Korean brands, while Piyonna didn't show a seller section, only the notice that the item “ships from a warehouse in Korea”.
So clicking directly on the seller's name to check the detailed information is an essential step.

Step 2. Which site is cheaper to buy from?
Check the final price based on your delivery address and whether taxes are included.

| Marketplace A (Madrid) | Shop Y (Spain) | Piyonna | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | €33.32 | €29.72 | €22.22 |
| Per 100ml | €54.30 | €59.44 | €44.44 |
| Taxes | VAT included | VAT included | Customs duties and VAT included |
- Sites compared: Marketplace A, Shop Y, Piyonna
- Time of check: Checked one after another for about 30 minutes in the early hours of 4 October 2026 (Korea time). Since all three sites run sales or have fluctuating prices, these may change over time, and prices are based on 1 unit of the product!
On all three sites, prices were in a similar range of €22 to €30. If the same product is excessively cheaper than elsewhere, it's a good idea to look more closely at the seller and the product's origin.
However, price is not proof of authenticity, only the first step in filtering out red flags. This step must be looked at together with Step 1 (checking the seller)!

Step 3. Where are K-beauty products shipped from, and when do they arrive?

| Marketplace A | Shop Y | Piyonna | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shipping costs | Free on the first order | Free from €45 | Free from €20 |
| Estimated delivery | 6 – 7 Oct. | 10 – 15 business days | 7 – 15 business days (Shipped from the warehouse in Korea) |
Don't look only at the price; also look at shipping costs, the estimated delivery time and how taxes are handled.
Marketplace A was the fastest, with free shipping on the first order and delivery on 6–7 October. Shop Y requires a minimum of €45 for free shipping, so if you buy just 1 item, €4.60 in shipping costs is added and it takes 10 to 15 business days.
Piyonna offers free shipping from €20, so a single item already meets the condition; it states a delivery time of 7~15 business days and that the item ships from the warehouse in Korea.
STEP 4. Are these K-beauty sites trustworthy, and are the K-skincare products really authentic? 🤔
Don't just check the number of reviews; also look at the rating distribution, the region where the reviews were written and whether their origin can be verified.

- Marketplace A: 4.5 stars (4,203 reviews). It includes verified purchase reviews (Verified Purchase) written in Spain. Reviewers mentioned that the texture is light and tingles without being unpleasant, or that the skin may react at first.
- Shop Y: 4.8 stars (1,845 reviews). The rating distribution was public (5 stars: 1,572; 4 stars: 192; 3 stars: 53; 2 stars: 12; 1 star: 16).
- Piyonna: 4.9 stars (697 reviews). It has a summary of reviews from Korean buyers. It included opinions such as that it tingled at first but the difference kept showing over time, that it goes well with a moisturiser, and various other tips from real use of the product.

Wait! Here's a mistake people often make. 🚨
It's drawing a simple conclusion like “lots of reviews = trustworthy”.
However, some large marketplaces have a “marketplace” (open market) structure, where several third-party sellers take turns on the same product page, which makes it hard for consumers to tell whether these reviews really correspond to a genuine product or through which channel they were left. In particular, since reviews usually accumulate at the product-page level, it can be hard to know which exact seller a given review belongs to.
- In fact, in 2023 the huge popularity of the COSRX snail serum flooded large online marketplaces with counterfeits in identical packaging, although this doesn't mean that every seller is a problem!
- Still, if you're not careful, you could receive grey-market products or poorly stored products whose formula may have changed over time! Tactics are getting more and more sophisticated these days, so even if you invest a lot of time you can end up receiving a counterfeit, so make sure to check carefully!
On the other hand, according to each platform's information, Piyonna and Shop Y work with brands or authorised distributors, which can make the path of the reviews clearer. ✨
After checking each site myself, Piyonna also offers a summary of reviews from local Korean buyers, built from reviews on Zigzag (a popular Korean shopping platform).

In fact, below each review there's a link to the original text that says “See the original from Zigzag”, which lets you immediately check where that review came from.
- Tip: Personally, if you want to buy genuine products with more peace of mind, it can be helpful to choose proven online beauty shops like these. Checking who the seller is for every single product is more exhausting than you'd think.

Step 5. Once the product arrives, what should we check next?
Check the label on the product you received.
Under Article 19 of the EU Cosmetics Regulation, the label must include the name and address of the Responsible Person within the EU, the country of origin for an imported product, the batch number and the list of ingredients (INCI). Imported products must designate a responsible person based in the EU. In addition, the language in which this information is shown — excluding the ingredient list — is determined by the law of the Member State where the product is sold.
- ⚠️ Keep its limits in mind: Since counterfeits also copy the packaging, barcode and batch number, simply having a label is not proof of authenticity. Checking the label isn't a pass test, but a minimum inspection to filter out red flags.
-
What should you do if you have doubts?
→ Keep photos of the box, the label and the batch number.
→ Compare it with the ingredient list on the brand's official website.
→ Contact the point of sale and request a return.
→ Check the batch number with the brand's customer service.

📋 Comparison table at a glance
| Marketplace A (Madrid) | Shop Y (Spain) |
Piyonna (Europe) |
|
|---|---|---|---|
| Seller | A third-party parapharmacy seller (per the buy box; there are 10 other sellers) | Not clearly shown on the product page | No separate indication; notice of shipping from the warehouse in Korea |
| Price | €33.32 | €29.72 | €22.22 |
| Shipping costs | Free (first order) | Free from €45; paid for 1 item | Free from €20; applies even to 1 item |
| Estimated delivery | 6 – 7 Oct. | 10 – 15 business days | 7 – 15 business days |
| Taxes | VAT included stated | VAT included; EU taxes covered by Shop Y | Customs duties and VAT included |
| Reviews | 4.5 (4,203) | 4.8 (1,845), public rating distribution | 4.9 (697), AI summary of Korean reviews |
- Seller: Marketplace A varies by destination, with multiple third parties; Piyonna and Shop Y offer more reassurance thanks to their official-partner structure.
- Price: Piyonna led with the biggest discount (-28%), although price should always be checked together with the seller.
- Shipping: Marketplace A wins on speed (6–7 Oct.), but Piyonna is more accessible, with free shipping from €20 (versus €45 at Shop Y).
- Reviews: Marketplace A has the most volume (4,203), but their origin is blurred by its marketplace structure; Piyonna stands out by letting you check Korean reviews directly via links to Zigzag.
→ In short: if you're after speed, Marketplace A is an option; if you value transparent ratings, Shop Y delivers. But for its balance of price, shipping and verifiable reviews, Piyonna stood out on price and on being able to check where the Korean reviews come from. The best option will depend on your priorities. ✅
In the end, each of the three sites showed its strengths in different areas.
Marketplace A stood out for speed, Shop Y for the transparency of its rating distribution, and 🔗Piyonna for price and for being able to verify where the Korean reviews come from.
Wherever you shop, always try to check the following five points in the same order (Seller ➔ Price ➔ Shipping ➔ Review origin ➔ Label after delivery).
I recommend setting your priorities first and, based on them, reviewing each point one by one before enjoying your K-skincare.
Keep in mind that this comparison is based on observing a single product at a specific moment, so it may not apply exactly to every item. 🌹
However, if you make these five steps a habit, it can help you reduce the risk of ending up with a counterfeit. 💫
